Here I am!

Jumping in and getting reading to try my hand at doing something new! I'm so thrilled to have stumbled in on this KAL, it seems to be the perfect fit for me as I'm a self-taught knitter who hasn't progressed beyond basic scarves and dishcloths. I'd love to try my hand at baby hat, booties, baby blankets, sock knitting and sweaters between now and January. I know, the list looks pathetic, but I've gotta start small. Knitting for some reason, just doesn't quite click with me. I don't know if it's because my mind is so set on crocheting, which I've been doing since I was seven, or if it's just a case of getting old ;)

I'm living in the Chicagoland area with my husband and son, three old dogs and two cats. And, once in a while someone drops in and stays for a while.

Can't wait to see what everyone else is up to, offer support along the way, and hopefully gain some insight as well. A huge thanks to Tina for such a wonderful idea, I may actually finish something I start ;0)

Best wishes to everyone for a wonderful weekend!

Intro

I forgot to introduce mysself. :) I am a proud mom to a 7 yr old son. I have been crocheting for about 7 years but I only do afghans. December 2006, I decided that I wanted to make other things but preferred the smooth look of knitted items over crochets. I purchased my first knitting needles after my exams last fall and in about three days I had knitted a small swatch. I was in love. But school returned in the spring and with the studying and getting ready for graduation, there was no time for knitting. Unfortunately, after graduation there is the bar, so no knitting time over the summer either.

Thankfully, I took the bar a couple of weeks ago and now have some afternoons free to knit!!! I can't wait to actually finish something!!!

New Things I'd Like To Do

Well I'm a knitting newbie, so my to-do list is quite boring.

I'll be completing my first hat for August, but I have nothing else decided. I know I want to knit the House Sweater from Charmed Knits as my first wearable, I want to dye my own yarn, and I want to try intarsia or fair isle. I also want to do something with DPNs, possibly a pair of socks.

Sorry! I forgot my intro!

Hi my name is Claudia!!! I am brazillian but I live in northeast of Ohio. I got married in Fabruary!! =) I learned to knit almost 2 years ago and to crochet in March! I start a lot of thigs but normally don't finish them, that's why I think this KAL is going to help me a lot I am so excited!!! The only sock I did was in straight needles but It looks like a boot on my foot lol it's illarious!!! So now I am trying to knit with double pointed needles i tried once but I got some holes on the heel!!! =( But I will try again. My August project is just a headband I fell in love with the cable pattern so I decided to make a headband and right after I started I joinned here!! =) The socks I already talked about! The tank top has no pattern yet cuz I am not sure yet how it's going to look, it was suppose to be a HAT!!! LOL This happens a lot with me!! The mobious scarf I absolutely fell in love with it when I watched the show Knitty Gritty but it seems pretty crazy to make but I will try it and the March basic!!! It is ADORABLE!!! I LOVE IT and I want it! =)

You guys have a great weekend!!! =) Kisses!!!

My August Project

Hi There!
My name is Paula.
I live in central Illinois with my Husband, Son
(who is leaving to go back to college in two weeks.) ,
4 cats and our basset hound Elise.

I don't have a list just yet.

But here is a 'new knitting something' I just started for my August project.

'Norwegian Mottled Socks', or something like that.

I have 2 books that I love "Folk Socks" and "Knitting in the Nordic Tradition."

( That kitty is named Zander, he is my official yarn inspector.)
I have been wanting to try the twine dying on sock yarn for a long time now and knit them in to knee socks to see how the pattern works out.

I am not sure how this is going to end up but it has been fun so far.

Looks like the color of peaches and cream.

Intro

Hi All
I am Kathy and I live in Central Massachusetts with my 3 kids, husband and cat. I started knitting religously in March, but I have been knitting on and off for the past 2 years. I enjoy knitting socks, they are addictive. I started something new last week - a sock with patern work beyond a rib stich, Tidal Wave sock http://soysilk.com/patterns/free.html I am rather impressed with myself in how nice these socks are coming out. I also just completed my first garment for my 15 yo daughter http://www.interweaveknits.com/freepatterns/pdf/sum_07/summertime_tunic.pdf
I am in the middle of moving, so I will post pictures soon.
So my goals for this KAL are to try cable work and lace work, something simple to start like scarves for holiday gifts. I may also try some felted clogs.
Have a great weekend.

Introduction

Hi. My name is Amy, I love in Oklahoma with my husband and our dog. Right now it is just me and the dog, the husband is in Iraq.

I haven't got my whole list of "something new" projects yet. But I am currently working on an original pattern for a felted bag, I also plan on knitting some socks and trying lace knitting. Beyond that I am not sure yet.

I am excited to get to know the rest of you and see what your new projects are.

My to do list...

Hi - I am Hobbygåsa and I am a Norwegian girl who are joining this KAL. There are a lot of things I would like to knit, but never have started, so this is what my list will help me to organize. ( I hope)
  • August: Finish my first shawl ever, where I for the first (and last) time knit from a pattern with a diagram.
  • September: Make a Clapotis, my first pattern with "drops stitches"
  • October: For the first time - knit a pair of mittens - probably Paradoxical Mittens...
  • November: Knit potholders that looks like a fan....
  • December: Knit a dishcloth called " Basic Modular Dishcloth". A new tecnique.
  • January: Learn to do shadowknitting

Well, if I can finish this I will be proud of myself I think....

(Please don't take notice of my spelling and grammar mistakes, it will be a lot of them!!)

* Baby Booties
September
* Chevron Scarf as a Christmas gift
October
*Lace Project- possibly Cozy from Knitty.com
November
* A pair of socks
** I haven't decided what to do with the other months!!!
Let's hope I can complete these!

Doing Something New!

Hi! My list of new things I would like to try in my knitting:

  • Entrelac
  • Intarsia
  • Felting
  • Hand-dyeing (I actually started yesterday with food colouring, but I'd like to perfect my technique)
  • Successfully knit a PAIR of socks in sock-weight yarn
  • Finish a project
So far I've had a few disasters with my knitting, so completing something would be awesome. I'm sure there are other things I'll add, but here's the list as it stands. I'll post each month with the project for the month.
