Here's my first hat. It's a newsboy cap.
I'm not entirely happy with it, but I think it looks cute. I had to change the pattern a lot, since I was using a yarn that was a lot thicker, but overall I like it. Next time though, I'll use a yarn that's the recommended gauge.
Oh, and the brim is folding over weird. Should I block this?

It looks adorable on you, Jami, and I think you did a great job! As far as blocking goes, what type of yarn did you use (wool, cotton, etc.)? It will depend on the content of the yarn as to whether you'll be able to block it or not.

Great hat! You have done a great job - I love the color too! Considering blocking I have no advice, I am sorry, I am a fairly new knitter and do not know much about blocking.

You could try blocking and see how that turns out, but it would depend on what percentage of the yarn you used was wool. Hmmm, I'm wondering if you could try threading a thin but sturdy piece of wire throught he edge of the brim to stiffen it?
Lookin' good and nice color for you too. Maybe instead of wire some thin flexible plastic tubing?

It's 100% wool, so I could block it, but I love the idea of putting wire or plastic tubing in it.

Wire or tubing would be a quick fix, although if you are planning on wearing it a lot I would probably knit another brim piece (either pick up stitches along the front edge or fake-graft it to the front edge after you knit it), insert a stiff piece of cardboard or plastic--or even heavy-duty interfacing would be fine-- and sew it shut. You could do this either instead of or in addition to the wire/tubing.
I'm a newbie, so that sounds horribly difficult. =]
The brim is knitted separately and folded over for double thickness and then sewn onto the hat. I could take it apart and put the cardboard in and then sew it back together.
